Mock Hunt Clinic - NOW FULLY BOOKED! Minimize

28th February 2010

WDHC are holding a clinic on the above date this year to enable you to get to know what Mock Hunts are all about and to answer all the questions.

Whether you been on our mock hunts previously and felt a bit lost on what was expected – from dress code to manners on the days – or you have never been before and would appreciate a stepping stone in a controlled environment.

On the day there will be clinics starting from 11am through to 2pm.

Each clinic will have a maximum of 6 – 8 riders and will be lead by one of our Masters and accompanied by assistant acting as a hound for the clinic.

Each clinic will be approximately 1 ½ hours covering a defined line around Warren Barn Farm.

Initially your Master and assistant will be discussing and running through with your group the various facets of hunting including dress code. You will then set off a at a slow pace with various stops throughout to discuss each facet that you will come across i.e., staying behind Master, and what to do if you can’t, Jumping obstacles (all entirely optional) understanding the terminology etc.

Any and all questions will be answered by your Master on the day.

As advertised dress is casual, as you can see on the day the dress code modelled by your Master and Assistant (both horse and Rider).

This is a unique opportunity to learn to start hunting and should not be missed. The clinic will stand you in good stead for the up and coming beginners' mock hunt in March.

We look forward to seeing you at the clinic and advise that you book early as there are only a limited number of spaces.

The price of this clinic will be £5 for member and £15 for non-members.

For further information and bookings please call Bob Kirk on 01883 652028 or 07970 948941

Cross Country Clinic with Roger Brown, 4th April 2010 Minimize

FOR WARLINGHAM & DISTRICT HORSE CLUB MEMBERS ONLY

I have arranged for Roger Brown (a retired eventer) to come to Warren Barn Farm on Easter Sunday, 4th April and he will give 3 lessons for four people lasting one and a half hours.

Kim Deakin introduced me to lessons with Roger last year and he is great fun, very experienced and has a great ability to teach, espcially those of nervous xc dispostion (due to hitting the deck too many times). Rather than just telling you what you should be doing, he frequently shows you from the ground how your position and weight affect the horse's way of going, often becoming the horse as well as the rider visually! He is always open to questions and replies with anecdotes of his eventing experiences.  Even spectating family and friends enjoy his anecdotes and are included during his teaching.

Lessons shall be for groups of 4 only and shall be on a first cheque received basis secures the place. Cheques made payable to Warlingham & District Horse Club and must be recieved 2 weeks in advance - please note this is when they shall be cashed.

The plan would be to run different ability lessons:-

Lesson 1 - 11:00-12:30 - Novice (Happy to jump 2'6 - 2'9

Lesson 2 - 12:30-14:00 - Intermediate (Happy to Jump 2'9 and up)

Lesson 3 - 14:00-15:30 - Mini (2'3)

HOWEVER this would be subject to uptake.

Meet at Water Jump, on your warmed up horse (warmed up in a safe manner on the flat without disturbing other farm users). Hard hats, back protectors (both to British Riding Club XC competition standard) and glovers to be worn.

Trailer/Lorry Parking to be in Farm Lane as ground could still be wet in early April. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU SHUT THE GATES TO THE XC COURSE AS YOU ENTER: in case it's your horse that deposits you and heads for home.

COST - the bargain price of £20 per person for a 1.5 hour lesson.

Contact Mary to discuss booking on 01322 383572 between 9 pm and 10 pm.

Cheques (made payable to Warlingham & District Club) should then be sent to

Mary Gee, 16 Morgan Drive, Greenhithe, Kent DA9 9DT

Sorry but cheques in advance only to secure a place.

If there is sufficient interest and uptake, other lessons with Roger for XC, SJ or dressage could be arranged at both Warren Barn Farm, using either the club field or hiring the WBF sand school to avoid hard ground, or at Eaglesfield Equestrian Centre, Ash, near Sevenoks. Let me know if you are interested and I shall try to arrange if suffiicient interest.

FOR WARLINGHAM & DISTRICT HORSE CLUB MEMBERS ONLY

I have booked Roger Brown for cross country lessons on Sunday, 16th May at Littleton Manor Reigate.  Lesson prices are slightly more than they might be at Warren Barn in order to cover the more expensive xc course hire.  Normal Course Hire is £25 per horse, but I have managed to secure the course hire for a special introductory price of £20 per horse, plus £15 to cover Roger's Instruction.  So overall the price is £35 to attend a one and half hour group lesson for four riders.
